FFE - Fraunhofer Fosters Entrepreneurship

FFE

The FFE program aims at supporting Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft establishments when preparing and realizing company spin-offs. It provides financial means to Fraunhofer establishments allowing the founders to further develop existing research results until they are ready to be launched on the market, to draw up a sustainable business concept, to create a business plan and to carefully prepare the foundation of the company. The support for potential institute spin-offs therefore also improves the possibilities for the efficient transfer of Fraunhofer technologies to the market via the establishment of spin-offs.

The maximum subsidy per project amounts to 150,000 euros. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the respective Fraunhofer Institute initiating the spin-off are each responsible for providing half of the subsidy amount. It is mainly intended to cover the labor costs of up to three persons. The project duration is limited to a maximum of one year.

A short realization concept, a brief statement of the institute as well as a project calculation are required for an application. These documents are submitted for decision to an expert committee that assembles four times each year. In case of a positive assessment, the packages described in the concept or the approval have to be executed. Upon expiration of the subsidy, in addition to the final report a precise business plan must also be presented as the basis for further steps to be taken.
