The Company
SOLID COMPOSITES GMBH develops and produces innovative thermoplastic powders for implementation as coating materials, sinter powders or additives. The know-how reaches well beyond powders. SOLID COMPOSITES is familiar with all process requirements in detail - such as electrostatic coating, selective laser sintering, slush molding. SOLID COMPOSITES supports its customers with the adaptation of their process parameters.
SOLID COMPOSITES GMBH is a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT and develops products in close cooperation with the Materials and Systems business unit there. This ensures the implementation of the latest, innovative developments in the field of new materials.
The Products and Services
Coating Powders
SOLID COMPOSITES GMBH offers innovative coating systems based on thermoplastic materials. The coating powders are suitable for processing with electrostatic, tribo but also fluidized bed sintering processes.
Electrostatic coating with powder coatings is of great economic importance. A simple handling, the retrieval of unused powders and a solvent-free application are substantial advantages over liquid coatings. Duroplastic materials - that is materials crosslinking during stoving - are used for almost all applications. Thermoplastic materials today are reserved for niche applications. Thermoplastics often outperform duroplastics in terms of toughness, strength and chemical resistance being a reason for their application in corrosion protection today. However, thermoplastic materials are capable of much more than that!
The functional powders of SOLID COMPOSITES close the gap between simple polyamide coatings and expensive high-performance coating systems based on fluoropolymers.
Laser Sintering Powders
SOLID COMPOSITES supports the development of selective laser sintering from processes for prototype manufacturing to production processes for small-batch series. For establishing the procedure, the currently limited material range has to be extended. SOLID COMPOSITES GMBH engages in the development of new powder material solutions based on PP and POM.
Furthermore, the possibility for high-pressure impregnation of commercially available laser sintering powders for functionalization or pigmentation is provided.
Functional Filler Materials
SOLID COMPOSITES develops and produces functional filler materials for customizing plastics to various requirements. Micro hollow balls for reducing density or improving machinability are part of the range just as micro capsules for an improved stability of additives or for creating new functions such as fragrance finishing or latent heat storage.
Production to Order
In addition to its product range, SOLID COMPOSITES also offers small to medium productions to order for realizing projects and objectives implementing established and innovative processing procedures. This enables SOLID COMPOSITES to cover a wide spectrum of material properties. The work of SOLID COMPOSITES is characterized by quick and competent solutions based on extensive experience with different polymer materials.
