The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft is a shareholder of the "start-up" FutureChemistry BV in Nijmegen (The Netherlands). FutureChemistry started as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS in Duisburg. The enterprise develops, realizes, and markets microreactor hardware and technology for optimizing chemical reactions and processes. Microreactors are important tools for any chemist. FutureChemistry develops products from the customer perspective and has gained long-year experience in this field.

Worldwide, the FlowScreen is unrivaled in the field of microreactor technology. This technology experiences a boom at present within the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industry, however, fully automated systems have not been available until now. With FlowScreen, FutureChemistry now offers an extraordinarily advanced and practical possibility to implement microreactors in a production or laboratory environment.

With FlowScreen, FutureChemistry offers its customers a decisive technological advantage: By using microreactor technology, FlowScreen makes it possible to dramatically shorten the time required for the development of chemical products. The combination of FlowScreen and microreactors ensures that chemical processes may be improved quickly, safely, and efficiently, and it allows for their implementation in small, well controllable steps. This way, the use of chemicals becomes safer and more environmental friendly.

The FlowScreen is a ready-to-use system developed by FutureChemistry. With FlowScreen, a single microreactor may behave like a complete chemical microfactory. The microreactors used by FutureChemistry consist of small glass plates featuring capillary channels where the chemical reactions take place. Computer and control apparatus enable a fully automated and safe execution of the reactions. This way, an insight into the most important process parameters is provided. The information gained by FlowScreen on a micro level may then be used on a (much) larger scale for production. In order to optimize this process, FutureChemistry cooperates with Flowid in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), an expert in the field of scale-up of flow chemistry to production amounts.
