The Services
Novaled's PIN OLEDs on metal substrates combine an attractive design with the extraordinary characteristics of Novaled OLEDs, including a long lifetime of 20,000 hours. Metal substrates such as steel or aluminum dispose of excellent barrier characteristics, flexibility and robustness. OLEDs on metal are suitable for applications where magnetic adhesion of the OLEDs might be desirable or processing such as welding, drilling or the like is required. Furthermore, metal as a carrier material enables bent or bendable OLED versions. Due to the substrate's favorable heat conducting characteristics, OLEDs on metal are particularly suitable for applications where heat abstraction is of decisive importance. Furthermore, metal substrates enable more cost-efficient role-to-role manufacturing of OLEDs in mass production.
The OLEDs manufactured by Novaled for lights and light sculptures are processed on steel substrates with a thinness of 0.7 mm. The metal substrate requires special, top-emitting OLED structures. Novaled developed a special ITO-free OLED architecture whose performance parameters are comparable to the standard of bottom-emitting structures. Another Novaled development is the Thin Film Encapsulation (TFE), which will enable bent and bendable OLEDs in the future.
