CONDIAS GmbH
The Company
CONDIAS develops and manufactures conductive diamond electrodes (DIACHEM® electrodes), electrode stacks and electrochemical cells. Diamond electrodes are characterized by the ability to produce oxidants directly from water and, thus, constitute the basis for the Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Process (EAOP®). The EAOP® is an excellent addition to common treatment methods and an environmentally friendly process for reducing organic pollutants in water.
CONDIAS GmbH was founded in 2001 as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute IST by its managing directors Dr. Matthias Fryda (center) and Dr. Thorsten Matthée (right). With its founding, CONDIAS GmbH took up the production of diamond electrodes in Itzehoe - 50 km north of Hamburg, Germany. In 2009 Dr. Jörg Trepte (left) joined the management board.
The Technology and Products

Diamond Coating - Conductive Diamond Layers
Conductive diamond coatings are manufactured in an activated gas phase. For this chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process, the gas phase consisting of hydrogen, methane additions - for diamond formation - and a gaseous boron compound is activated by hot filaments (HF).
After a special pre-treatment procedure, the electrode substrates are exposed to this gas phase. When maintaining suitable substrate temperatures between 600 °C and 900 °C and activation conditions, a closed polycrystalline diamond layer is formed on the electrode surface which is boron doped during the deposition process. The amount of boron determines the conductivity of the HFCVD diamond coating and can be adapted for the application as DIACHEM® electrodes.
DIACHEM® - Diamond Electrodes
Over the last years, diamond electrodes advanced to an industrial standard and have established themselves on the market as DIACHEM® electrodes. DIACHEM® electrodes unfold their full potential in particular in water treatment, electrochemical syntheses and special applications.
Due to versatile possibilities for application and requirements, DIACHEM® electrodes are manufactured to customer specifications.
CONDIACELL® - Industrial Waste Water Treatment
Chemical oxidation with diamond electrodes is the solution for treatment of persistent waters. This electrochemical advanced oxidation process (EAOP) is an excellent opportunity to support common treatment procedures and to reduce the amount of pollutants that would otherwise be discharged into the environment.
Industrial application of this procedure requires an efficient and versatile cell system that may be used for a wide range of applications.
CONDIAPURE® - Disinfection of Water Systems
Chlorine-free disinfection is becoming ever more important for both industrial and private applications. With CONDIAPURE®, ozone is produced directly from water. A technology with many advantages.
Some examples are: ultra pure water (for pharmaceutical, cosmetic and medical applications), rinsing baths (optical components, printed circuit boards, automotive industry), tap water supply and luxury swimming pools. The processes currently being used for disinfection include UV light or ozonization.
