The Company

AMPHOS GmbH

AMPHOS "Amplifying Photonics", a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, is a start-up laser technology enterprise.

AMPHOS manufactures ultrashort pulse laser systems with an extremely high average output power (>> 100 W) for application ranging from fundamental research to industrial production engineering. The employees' long-term experience with the development of InnoSlab-based lasers, optomechanical systems, and joining technology for optical components constitutes the basis for robust laser systems.

The aim is to establish a new standard for the stability and reliability of the latest generation high-performance ultrashort pulse lasers. This is made possible by the inherently simple InnoSlab amplifier design and a consistent implementation of components that are proven throughout the industry and have been optimized under thermomechanical aspects.

Technology and Application

AMPHOS laser systems are based on InnoSlab amplification technology. An InnoSlab amplifier system is characterized by a very simple and compact beam path able to achieve high amplification without CPA and without a regenerative setup. The extremely compact design – the distance between the folding mirrors is approximately 35 mm – results in a robust, virtually monolithic setup.

Applications of AMPHOS laser systems cover a wide range from fundamental scientific research to industrial production engineering. Due to their high average output power, AMPHOS laser systems are used in scientific applications to enable e. g. shorter test times or intensities that cannot be achieved using other systems.

Concrete applications in this segment include:

Industrial applications benefit from their high average output power. Many applications with an output power in the range of single watts have already been demonstrated with available beam sources. However, only AMPHOS laser systems make such applications profitable now.
