The Company

Scopis GmbH

Scopis GmbH researches, develops and markets high-precision laser-based endoscopic and microscopic measuring systems for minimally invasive surgery. Innovative 3D measurement enables a reproducible execution of surgical procedures for the first time. This helps to minimize clinical complications and optimize costs.

The company is a spin-off of the Berliner Zentrum für Mechatronische Medizintechnik, a joint institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

The Technology and Products

The first Scopis product is »ORION ENT«, a measuring system for ENT surgery enabling optimized clinical navigation for paranasal sinus surgery. It consists of a processor and a software for laser navigation. Connected are an optical camera and a specifically developed endoscopic measuring attachment for conventional endoscopy. Integration of the measuring system is carried out by the doctors themselves who simply attach the measuring attachment to the existing endoscope. A laser dot is projected onto the tissue for the doctor to pointwise measure anatomical structures. For each projected laser dot, ORION ENT determines the precise space coordinates of the selected structures.

One decisive USP is the attachments' compatibility with any conventional endoscope. Scopis GmbH measuring systems also set themselves apart from existing technologies through contactless measurement performed directly at the object with a precision of a tenth of a millimeter.

Due to shorter operation times, such measuring systems enable time and cost savings, a reduction of clinical complications, a complete documentation of surgical procedures as well as better postoperative results for different clinical applications.

At present, Scopis develops new areas of application. Based on the current technological development, the start-up will successively introduce further product innovations to address all human body regions relevant for endoscopy. Additionally, further areas of rigid endoscopy such as the arthroscopy of joints and laparoscopy will be added
